The Local SEO Advantage for Roofing Companies

There are a lot of ways you can reach your customers. People find customers through word-of-mouth, billboards, social media, and more. They even find them through in-person event sponsors. While there is a ton to choose from, SEO stands out as a clear advantage for roofing companies. Why? Because SEO is a long-term investment in making your business visible to people looking for your services.

With that in mind, and with the summer season heating up (literally if you are in the Southwest like I am), then it is time to make an investment in your SEO. You may not be a master at websites, or even marketing in general, but there are still some quick wins that you can prioritize to optimize your local SEO for some wins.

1. Reviews, Reviews, Reviews!

One thing that is essential for any local roofing company is prioritizing reviews. These reviews can be given on a lot of different platforms, but Google is often the priority. This is a good priority, as it is likely to still have the largest impact on your SEO. High-quality, non-gated reviews are an excellent signal for Google that your business is worth showing to people in need of roofing services.

So, check out how many reviews you currently have, and what your rating is. What is the correct number of reviews? As many as possible. You can develop a system for sending out a review request after every job. Here, we provide reputation management as part of our SEO package. This streamlines the process of requesting reviews so you can get as many as possible. What about those customers that may not be happy with your services? If you are a top-quality roofing service, these should be way outnumbered by the glowing reviews. And, allowing reviews that are not 5 stars will make your business more realistic in the eyes of Google and your customers. Nobody hits a home-run 100% of the time. And, gating your reviews so only good ones show can create other major issues for your profile in the long-term.

This leads into the other question about reviews. What is a good review score? On Google, you want your score to be as close to 5 stars as possible. As mentioned above, it may not be 5 stars, and that is ok. But you want to make sure it is as close as possible.

Optimizing reviews is going to make you more visible in the maps, which is going to show your value to more people searching for what you offer.

2. Profile, Profile, Profile!

When was the last time you checked your Google Business Profile? Are you sure it is up-to-date on all of the information customers may need to know to connect with you? If you’re not sure, then go and check it now. This is a quick way to put your roofing business in a good position when it comes to connecting with local clients.

The more information you can fill out on your profile, the more information you are giving Google Maps to understand what customers may be best to match you with. You are also improving your ranking signals simply by filling out the profile fully.

Additionally, you want to make sure you are posting regularly on your profile. Google really prioritizes businesses that are active, which means posting regularly AND responding promptly to reviews. If that seems like a lot to manage, it is! But it will earn you some big wins in the local rankings. My team has a program that can help streamline the process that works alongside your reputation management, so we can keep your profile looking sharp at all times!

In addition to the rankings, it does improve user experience. When people look you up on Google Maps, usually with the “roofing company near me” prompt, they will find a profile full of information about who you are and what you do. This will ultimately drive more customers to hire you once they find you.

3. Content, Content, Content!

Great content is essential in the current digital landscape. As an industry, the top marketing agencies are shifting away from content for keywords alone, and shifting toward quality content that meets customers’ needs. This was not always the case, but it is certainly what you want to look for in an agency now. Here, one of our core values is quality. Quality content in posts, blogs, and websites is at the very core of what we do. It takes more time, and is more expensive for us, but we believe that 2 well-written blog posts are worth 100 quickly generated ones.

Which brings me to a big topic in the digital space: the use of AI. I do believe AI is useful for many tasks throughout the digital space. It can make things that took weeks take minutes. I do use AI in my own work (for those who are curious, I prefer Claude). However, I will be honest, this blog post was written by hand. It was me, on my computer, typing it out after doing keyword research. That is a slower process, but I believe this is essential to supporting a quality SEO strategy, and I bring that same commitment to quality for our clients. For more on what that looks like with our clients, book a call with us!
